How this works.
You design your own furniture on this website. You see the price straight away. Then you send it to us. Nobody phones you, nothing is ordered, and you do not pay anything until you have the price in writing. Here is the whole thing, step by step.

The one thing people get wrong
The builder opens on a standard size. Change it to yours.
When you open the studio, there is already a desk on the screen with a price under it. That is just a starting point, not your desk. It is a normal 1000 × 700 mm desk, so the page is not blank when you arrive.
The whole point of this site is that you change it. Make it longer. Make it shorter. Change the colour of the steel. Pick a different board. Add a shelf. Every time you change something, the price under it changes too.
If you send it without changing anything, we will build you a standard desk — which is fine if that is what you want, but most people wanted their own size and did not realise they had to set it.

Step by step
The longer version.
1. Pick a starting point
You have two ways in. Ready-made is a shop of designs we have already worked out — pick one, see the price, done. Design your own starts you in the studio, where you set everything yourself.
If you are not sure, start with a ready-made one. You can still open it in the builder afterwards and change it.
2. Change it until it is right
In the studio you answer one question at a time. How wide. How deep. How tall. Which board. Which frame. What colour steel. A drawing turns as you go so you can see what you are making.
Nothing locks in. You can go back and change any answer at any time, as many times as you like.
3. The price is live
The number at the bottom is the real price, worked out from what materials actually cost today. It moves the moment you change something. A wider desk needs more steel, so it costs more, and you can see exactly how much more.
Nobody has to quote you. That is the whole idea. Here is what the price is made of.
4. Send it to the workshop
When it looks right, fill in your name and a phone number. An email address helps because it means we can send the price to you in writing, but it is optional.
Your design, the measurements and the price all get attached automatically. You do not have to explain anything or type any of it out again.
Sending it does not order anything and does not cost anything. You are asking us to confirm a price.
5. We come back to you
Within one working day you get the price confirmed in writing, plus a date for when it would be on the bench. Alex reads every message himself — there is no call centre and no sales person.
If the price has moved since you designed it, you hear about that first, before anything is paid. If you do not like it, you walk away and owe nothing.
6. Pay half, we build
Once you are happy, you pay half by card on a Yoco link. That half buys your materials, and we send you the merchant slips so you can see what it bought.
You never pay the full amount up front, before a single piece of steel has been cut.
7. Pay the rest when it arrives
The other half is due on delivery or collection, before it is handed over. Delivery is R300 around Pretoria, or free if you collect. That is one fee per order, however many pieces are on it.
Straight answers
Things worth knowing.
Am I ordering when I press send? No. Nothing is ordered and nothing is owed until you have a written price and you have paid the deposit.
How long does it take to build? You get a date for the bench with your written price. It depends on what is already in the queue.
What if I want something the builder cannot do? Put it in the notes, or just message us. We do one-offs all the time.
What if it turns up wrong? Every order is built against a build sheet with every measurement on it. If what arrives does not match that sheet, we fix it or remake it, at our cost.
Is it guaranteed? Two years on the welds and joinery. Full wording here.
Can I cancel? Before we buy the materials, yes. After that the material was bought for your build specifically, so it becomes a new job.
Do I get anything for sending a friend? Yes — they get 10% off their first order and we pay you R200 once it is delivered. They just have to mention your name when they send their design. More here.
