The workbench studio · Pretoria workshop
Build the bench. Watch the price as you go.
A welded steel frame under a bare steel plate top, sized for real welding and grinding work. Change the size, base, colour or features and the price updates instantly, priced off real merchant costs. Spin it to see how it goes together.
Build your workbench here
What is on screen now is our standard size, not your order. Change the answers below to your own measurements — the drawing and the price update as you go. Nothing is locked in, and nothing is ordered until you have a written price. How this works
Pick one to start, then change anything. Nothing is locked.
Measure the doorway it has to go through before you order. A welded frame that will not turn through the opening cannot be fixed on the day.
The clear opening, not the door leaf — measure between the frames with the door open, and check any passage or stair corner it has to turn on the way in. Left alone we check against a standard 760 mm inside door, but that is our assumption, not your measurement. If you already know a welded frame will not go in, tick Bolt-together frame below. A piece that cannot be carried in on the day is not something we can put right at our cost.
Measured off the legs, so it never lands on one. On a narrow top with the legs well in, it moves inboard until it fits.
The right bench height comes off your own elbow height, not a standard number — too high and your shoulders ache, too low and you're hunched over. Enter your height and what it's mostly for.
A starting point, not a fitting — everyone's proportions differ a little. The M10 levelling feet give you a bit of adjustment either way once it's built.
Less inset puts more steel right under the edge — usual for a bench that takes knocks.
Only steel plate is offered here — no checker tread, no ply. Every bench this page builds is weld- and grind-safe by default, so there's no weaker option to pick by mistake.
Every colour costs the same: two coats, priced by the steel there is to cover. The top itself is always left bare — that's what makes it safe to weld and grind on.
Each one is real steel, welded or bolted on — priced off what it actually uses, same as the rest of the bench.
We build one-offs all the time. Whatever you type here goes on the build sheet and we price it with the rest — it just will not appear in the drawing above, because the 3D preview can only show the options listed here.
Each bench: materials plus welding and painting. Delivery is R 300 for the whole order, however many you buy.
Delivered assembled, carried in and levelled where you want it. R 300 anywhere in Pretoria, added on top of the price above. Outside Pretoria we don’t deliver — you’re welcome to collect from the workshop.
Shortcuts — only if you want them
AI turns your description into a real design right away — no waiting on us, nothing to review. Change anything afterwards.
A dot means it's already set. Tap any item to jump straight to that step — or describe what you want in the box above and we'll find it, spelling and all.
Your build sheet
This is exactly what gets made.
The price is today's merchant cost for plate, steel and paint, measured against your actual drawing, plus separate flat fees for welding and painting — each priced by the joint or the job, not as a percentage of materials. Nothing is due to start — we carry all the materials and the bench work until it's finished; the full amount is due on delivery, before it's handed over. Delivery is R 300 anywhere in Pretoria, or collect from the workshop free. We confirm everything in writing within one working day, and flag any change before you pay.

It's on the bench list.
We've got your build sheet and we'll come back to you within one working day with the confirmed price and a date.
Real steel, real board — same hands.
The workbench studio is new — nothing to photograph from this bench yet. What's pictured is a real desk from the same Pretoria workshop: same welded steel, same board, same process. We'll swap this for a real workbench the moment the first one's finished.

Drawn in the desk studio — A-frame legs, two-shelf side unit.

The finished desk, out of the Pretoria workshop. Not a render.
Every price on this page is worked out the same honest way — real merchant costs for exactly what your own design uses, nothing rounded up or guessed.
From screen to floor
Three steps, no back-and-forth.
Custom steelwork usually means a week of emails before you know the cost. We put the price on the page instead.
You draw it
Set the size, top, frame and colour. The model turns as you build, and the price moves with it.
We confirm it
Your build sheet reaches us with every number on it. Within one working day we confirm the price in writing and a date for the bench.
We build and deliver
Plate cut, steel welded and coated, then finished and levelled in your workshop — with progress photos along the way.
